Project Description
A novel fiber optic sensing system had been developed within the project FOSAS. It increases the economic life time of current collectors (CC) and can be used to supervise the railway infrastructure. It is applied on the interface CC – catenary. The fiber optic sensors are imbedded inside the CCs of electrical locomotives and detect the deformation of the CC. The detection of this deformation is mainly important in the range of short times. Then it can visualize hits on the CC and with this, disturbances on the interface CC – catenary. Within the project the optoelectronic components of the new measurement system were developed and tested. At the moment, the measurement system is further tested by running under practical conditions.
